Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Display Modes "dropdown"

When I choose anything other than "linear" for the thread display mode (when viewing a thread, this is an option at the top - the rightmost "dropdown" looking thingy, right next to "rate thread" and "search this thread"), the thread is too wide for my browser.

I'm not sure if this is due to the style applied to the div containing the thread links itself, or if it's a problem with the style applied to one of the containing page elements...

Stays the same for me in IE and firefox. What browser?

Firefox 1.0.3, with xft+gtk2 (which is standard now, for Linux builds at least).

I was thinking the problem might have been with the <table id="main"> tag (it also had a width of 100%), but it turns out that's supposed to contain the ads on the right, too. So that's not it either then.

It may be a browser bug, I'm not sure. I think I remember FF 1.0.3 on Windows doing something similar with certain MSDN pages... maybe I should just upgrade to 1.0.4.

Hmm.... looks fine to me.

Firefox 1.0.4 gtk+xft2.

Still breaks with FF 1.0.4.

See the attached screenshot, and notice how the bottom scrollbar is visible (it should not be), while none of the ads on the right are visible (they should be).

Dunno what to do about it since i can't reproduce it. Has to be something peculiar to your system since no one else is seeing it.

Ah... now I see.

I am getting the same result with Firefox 1.0.4, I just didn't notice it. Except for the horizontal scrolling, it actually looks better that way, so I must not have registered it in my mind as a "problem." Sorry about that.

I've been playing around with the developers' toolbar extension's "edit CSS" button, to see if I can figure out what part of the CSS is making it do that.

It appears that merely bringing up the "edit CSS" thingy (which comes up in a sidebar) fixes the page. So it does look like a possible bug in FF's initial layout. (Perhaps reflow related? Reloading the page after bringing up the sidebar does make it too wide initially, but once it's done the page reflows and it's fixed.) I can't get it to fix itself by resizing the window, or bringing up other sidebars (history or bookmarks), though.

I'm still wondering why you don't see it, but if bringing up the edit-css sidebar fixes it here, then it's probably not the fault of the markup or the styling. Never mind. :)

I've just tested it (with FF 1.0.4), and it seems to be a firefox bug.

When I first switch from linear to Hybrid/Threaded, it is too wide, then when I select the other option (Linear/Hybrid), it displays correctly, if I click to refresh the page after that, it goes back to being too wide. Not that I'm bothered about losing the ads at the side of the page. ;)

Ditto here. I've seen similar rendering bugs in Firefox before though where refreshing a page makes it display correctly. This was on a site that completely validated on the W3 CSS and HTML validators.
