I am impressed! Can you give us the prototype specs? Hmse 05-21-2005, 10:31 AM That's a pretty good idea. Especially for the third world countries that could have great benefits from mass distrobution of computers buit cannot pay for them. serz 05-21-2005, 04:49 PM That's a great idea.. but I want one for me!! :p nordinaryspider 05-30-2005, 04:43 PM I want at least ten of them for the children (and some of the adults) in my offline community. :D The next best thing is Freecycle, stubborness, and not having much of a life. GmarAppledude 05-31-2005, 10:02 AM I think this is a fantastic idea, but I hope they are using low power components and processors, can you imagine the winding needed to keep a P4 Prescot running, You'd have no time left for typing. Yes I know they would have taken this into consideration. I really am impressed that people take on projects like this, it's like the dawn of a new age. I have to say though it makes me kind of embarassed about all of the kit I have at the moment. nordinaryspider 05-31-2005, 10:44 AM Originally posted by GmarAppledude I have to say though it makes me kind of embarassed about all of the kit I have at the moment. [/B] I know the feeling; what I use every day myself (Dell Dim4500 and Comcrap S5000NX) is exactly what I DON'T want to see newbies getting bogged down with: overpowered and overpriced and/or poorly made. I learned the hard way and was very fortunate to have folks who were willing to teach me how to make these machines what they are today, but I wouldn't wish those lessons on anyone. Now my PIIs are GREAT little machines. My Kubuntu box is what I would wish for a kid's first PC: $30 on eBay for the hardware, $.99 and $1.49 postage and handling for the pressed CD of the OS, and it's never given me a minute's trouble. It's plenty fast enough, too. justlinux.com
