Maybe its just me but for about the last week or so doing a search here takes forever. It doesn't seem to make a difference whether Im at work or home so I assume its not just me with this problem. I seem to average a couple searchs a day (I have alot of problems) and have been doing this for quite some time so I don't think Im just losing my mind. :) Did something change here? or is it just me

It might just be you, I just did a search for 'dhcp samba' and got back over 5 pages in less the 10 seconds...
What terms are you using? Maybe we can try them to see if it's how your searching?

I just did a search on "flash for linux" it took 2 min 35 secs for the results page to finish loading. It took almost 2 min before the page that says you will be taken to your results in a second even loaded. I have been building my own email server lately using qmailrocks so I've done a lot of searching regarding that also. It may very well be me but I can't figure out why it would be doing it on two seperate machines in two seperate locations. mmm same ISP though. Maybe we'll just blame it on them. :)

You wouldn't be on comcast would you?
They have had problems as of late. I know they have been upgrading things and it's caused them problems in other areas.

It is taking a long time to submit...a very long time
I've even posted this and edited it, it's still waiting...maybe we broke it with the 3 letter seaches :D

Well, as I make this post, the load average on the server is approximately 3. (At least, according to the super-secret (;)) moderator's control panel page.) I think it used to be near 1 -- if I am remembering correctly, then that could cause these problems.
Icarus, you might be right about the 3-letter searches thing. I guess it depends on when the server updates its database of which threads contain which words (that might happen all the time, I don't know).

Ok back to complain again, but this time its the whole site that is being slow. Every page I click on seems to take awhile to load. Not a huge amount of time but long enough I start to look to make sure I actually clicked the link. (again maybe this is just me) I usually stop by here 2-3 times a day to further my knowledge and see if on the off chance I may be able to answer a question. (doesn't happen to often) On a side note has the posting slowed down too? when I got here today there was still a topic on the home page that I had read yesterday morning. Nothing had been added, it just had not made its way through the list yet. I do not have a life. I have very few sites that I visit. Please please fix it if you can I want my linuxnewbie back :)

Regarding the search, yes the forum does not index words of 4 letters or less. This helps keep the database size down.
Regarding the forum speed, we're working on a long term solution to the problem, however it won't be immediate.

Actually as far as the search's go that was an old thread and that problem has been resolved. I just didn't want to start a new thread on essentially the same problem. As far as the current problem I'm happy to see that its already being addressed, as it would hurt the search first policy that is pushed so hard here if a person gets frustrated waiting for a page to load.
Thanks for the response

I've noticed the same thing. Brian mentioned it yesterday in his LT editorial and said that they had been getting a lot of traffic lately and had upgraded servers. I was hoping maybe that meant the forums too, but maybe not. I haven't been on here enough since then to tell.
As far as the fewer posts, I would agree with that too. Hopefully it just means that people are starting to get the search first, ask second idea.:)

There are new servers coming but I don't have a timeframe. IN the meantime we're trying other stopgap measure to alleviate the problem until we can deal with it with new hardware.
