In the past few days, I've had a number of things remind me of this community. The other day at work, I made reference to a "Big Red Button" in piece of software we were working on, and seeing that phrase instantly took me back to the days of Mandeep, tminos, 11000, Craig McPherson, FoBoT, The Linux Duck, and so many others. I almost got a little misty-eyed.

Then a co-worker was running supyBot in the office IRC channel, and upon looking into it, I found that it was written by jemfinch and a derivitive of the one that was run in the #linuxnewbie channel back in the day ....

And lastly, while going through my directory of random images, I came across this one, which old timers will get a kick out of:

Anyway, I just wanted to poke my head in and let anybody who still remembers/cares know how I'm doing, and I also wanted to say that all that just got me thinking about how cool a place this is. To be honest, I haven't been around ... well, at all ever since the switch from LNO to JL, and a lot of it is because I just wasn't happy about how things went down. Regardless of that, though, this was the place I came back in May of 2000 when I first stepped into the world of Linux (with Corel, if you can remember that!), and the help I found here was immeasurably valuable. Since then, I have gone on to land a job doing stuff I absolutely love and working with the things I love. I work for a Linux shop in Fort Collins, CO, and while I haven't been here in ages, I owe a tremendous amount of the knowledge that got me established to this community.

So to the old-timers who are still around, thank you. To those who are now taking the time to help others, you're awesome. And to those just starting the adventure ... have fun. :D

Now I'm getting all nostalgic. I need a beer ...

Not much of a linux geek was I, but I liked the intelligent debate in the otherwise off subject-matter threads. I recall the good Colonel. Don't know why I checked this site right now, haven't been here in almost two years. Almost like returning to the old neighborhood.

Cheers.

I miss some of the old-timers too, although some of the 'newcomers' are old-timers now.....

Glad to have you poke your head round the door - hope you come back soon :)
