Character Map Searching

I am trying to find a certain character, but cannot find it in the character map in OOo, even in the Times New Roman font. It is simply a "t" with a "." beneath it, sort of like the "." in "!". There is a symbol that is similar, but it has a "," beneath the "t" instead. Does anyone know where I can find it? Does anyone know of any search tools for finding symbols among the many hundreds available?
