i have these problems with my old linux install
i had a hdd where i installed some time ago
a mandrake 10.0 official on a riva tnt2
128mb ram,4gb ,amd duron 800mhz.

anyway,now i have duron 1200mhz,96ram,same old
4gb hdd with linux on it,it's the same linux
i had when i had my old computer only that now i'm
running it on another system.
my X doesn't wanna start and i have problems dealing
with my cdrom.
i attach these details it gave me after i put in some
commands like ls /dev,mount and dmesg wich a friend
told me to run, maybe this will help you understand
better what is happening.
i can see that the hardware is not compatible anymore,
and that would be my best guess but i can't figgure out
how to reconfigure it or something.
if i let it run it goes to Checking for New Hardware..
and the stalls.
i have a different video card now and different
motherboard.
please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

details are in desktop.zip

i haven't yet read your posts when i am posting

i read some stuff from linuxgazette
and i wrote on bash startx 2>&1 tee | startx.txt
and the X starts with a red background and
then it starts to load stuff and when it reaches to
the second icon in it's loading sumthin like
initializing devices or something it stalls
i have to mention that this time i configured all
stuff i have with DrakConf(i'm on mandrake).

If you have your install disks you might try booting from them and run "upgrade" in order to detect the new hardware and configure your X-server.

Or, if you boot into runlevel 3 you can login as root and run mcc to use the ncurses version of Mandrake Control Center.
