Hi,

I installed mandrake linux 10.1 on my laptop.
It stops for a long time to detecting new hardware.
I have tried to bootup without any extra devices (usb etc.)
connected to laptop. I read somewhere that deleting /dev/console
would help, well no help. I read also disabling harddrake should speed up
booting, well no help. It takes two (2) minutes to bootup mandrake linux 10.1. Otherwise it works like a charm.

TIA,

What services are running kill everything you DO NOT NEED.

If it's an old computer, like PIII or so, two minutes is not long for Mandrake... that's a pretty slow one.

Hi,
Thanks for Your answers,

to X
My laptop is Pentium M 755 with 1GB ram
and Radeon 9700 Mobile with 256MB ram.
I'd think it's not the processor / memory which gives me a hard time.

I'll give a try to kill all services that I don't need

Thanks,

disable kudzu, the new-hardware checking app.i always do it.
also disable unneccessary services (but not ip_tables/shorewall/X fonts caching)

Thanks rocketpcguy,

Can You tell to a newbie where I can find and disable kudzu as I cannot find it in Mandrake control center?

TIA,
