ok...
im very new to linux.... and im setting up my second comp which is a desktop with mandrake 9.2. with i believe a 2.4 kernal. now i know i have USB support because it recognizes my jump drive. so... my question is.... how can i setup internet access through USB from my cable modem. the only reason i want to is because i cant get it to work through the eth0. dont know why either because ifconfig -a sees the eth0. but yet... i cant get it to work right. it fails everytime at boot. so.... how can i get the USB to suppport the internet connection? please keep in mind i am still very new and am not that familiar with things. im still learning the workings of linux. so please... be gentle heh. and i would appreciate it if i could have some detailed instructions on how to accomplish this. thanks so much for your time.

generally setting up eth0 is a million times more easy than usb.
1. how is the second computer hooked to the cable modem.
directly or through a router

2. are you using dhcp

3. was your network card reconized correctly?

its directly through the modem when i hook it up. just straight from the eth0. and it seems to recognize it properly. and yes i am using dhcp
