Hi, all,
Finally got Yellow Dog Linux to install correctly on my G5 with dual 1.8GHz processors, running 10.3.8.
BUT... the fans in the G5 are apparently controlled by the OS, so, when I'm booted to YDL, the fans (then uncontrolled) are on overdrive all the time. As you can imagine, this is quite noisy and annoying and power-consuming.
Does anyone know what can be done to alleviate this issue?
thanks,
tommaso

Well, I did everything as directed, but the fans are still in vacuum cleaner mode.
Will try the next kernel update from what the link pointed to; hopefully that'll make a difference. Otherwise, I don't think I'll even want to use Linux on this machine.
Thanks again,
tommaso

yeah, theres a revision/firmware update on the g5's that came after that howto was made. The ydl 2.6.9 kernel should fix the fan issue though sound still doesnt work (just on the g5 machines now and Owen is working on that). In about a week or 2 the 4.0.1 updates will hit the public mirrors and the sig part of this is the update of kde and the progression to the 2.6.10 kernel (which seems far more stable and better supported then the 2.6.9 kernel)

StarKnight83,
2.6.9 is what I upgraded to, and it doesn't fix the fan issue for me. Hopefully the next one will.
Guess I'll just wait for the 4.0.1 Bittorrents.
Thanks,

Unfortunately, I am unable to boot into YDL at present.
So I think I'll just wait for the isos to become available. Is there an email notification service available for knowing when that happens?

Uh, StarKnight83,
I do not see the download links on the YDL pages. What URL should I be looking for?
