[merged with WANADOO and LINSPIRE] internet hanging

Hi there , I am areal Newbee to all of this so I hope there is someone who can help me in simple terms. I have gotten LINSPIRE to recognise my Modem, but when it dials "NEUF TELECOM", my IP. it hangs on"INITIALISING MODEM" . Can any body tell me where I am going wrong?:confused:

can you provide more details? like what system you are using will be great. WE do need the modem you are using....

well obviously I'm using LINSPIRE, and my modem is ...B-FOCUS/HI-FOCUS ECI USB...it tells me that it is connected, but just hangs at that message.
I have...AMD XP2400 CHIP...1024 RAM...LINSPIRE installed on 40Gb H/D...DSL connection 512...

Do Neuf Telecom support dialup from Linux?
Do they require any initialize scripts from the modem?
You may need to look into PPPoE (search for it here, or have a look over at http://www.roaringpenguin.net/penguin/open_source_rp-pppoe.php)

Hi all, i hope that there is somebody who can help me. i'm new to Linux and i'm having problems connecting to the Web. i've been trying for 2wks. now, with no luck.
i live in FRANCE, and am using France Telecom's WANADOO. i put in the Phone number, my Connection No. and Pass No. but everything Hangs at the Connecting Box when i try to go Online, it just says Connecting, and stays there.
The system can see the Modem Ok. but thats it.
My System ...XP Home...Linspire...AMD XP 2400gb cpu...1024 DDR ram... Maxtor 160Gb...Maxtor 80Gb... Maxtor 40Gb...Speedtouch USB ADSL PPP...
i really hope one of you can help me, idon't know what i am doing (or not) wrong.
Oh Wanadoo .FR's IP is a PPP. if this helps.
