Hey guys,
I'm running Mandrake 9.1 on a dual PPro 200. Now, after having it run for a couple of weeks nonstop, I am unable to login via ssh remotely. What's more, is that I cannot access the command-line locally, either (I'm not running any window manager, either).
What I do see when accessing it locally, is a series of shorewall entries. It seems as though people are trying to pry into my system, and by all indications, it seems to be working because all the shorewall entries include 'DROP' in them. Unfortunately, the system will not respond to ANY keystrokes at this point. When I try the good 'ol ctrl-alt-del a few times, it gives me the following response:
INIT: cannot fork, retry..
The only way I am able to access my server is to hit the reset button and after its normal start-up, everything's back to normal, until a week or two later, where the process repeats.
Does anyone know what's going on? Is my system being infiltrated? HELP!
