the "anyone seen this" thread. I know it was immature, probably ineffectual, and not in good taste, but it was fun. Oh well, off to the Macintosh forum.....:D

Nice job HC.
Kudos for spreading the word. Unfortunately most users of that site will continue to disagree with you because they don't know any better.

I still ask the program coordinator at my school quite frequently if we can install some GNU/linux distro on all the comps in the labs. He always retorts that "we are a Microsoft IT academy" heh.
I guess that's part of why my tuition is so costly. Those guys in there don't even dare mention unix in any of the classes; its like its a taboo or something. Man M$ has a LOT OF PEOPLE by the nards.

Most places would rather dump money on more licenses, patches, upgrades, loss of downtime due to server instability, etc, than having to retrain an entire IT dept--let alone a whole university--to use a new system. It's the cost of ownership thing again...most people have grown up windows users and became admins only for windows. There either aren't enough linux admins around or companies aren't willing to 1) invest the money into training their employees with a new technology or 2) hireing additional or replacement workers.

Hehe good one. I do the same thing with most of the MS people I know. Its like pushing a rope sometimes but fun all the same.
