Just curious, how many of you here are using the Radeon in 3d mode for Linux? I can't for the life of me make it work.
What distro are you using? Maybe I need to change. Could it be that a certain distro "plays" better with the ATI drivers?
Thanks

From all reports, the newer ATI cards seem to be a pain in a certain part of the anatomy. I've seen people in Linux and Winblows complain about these cards. I've used Nvidia without a hitch for years on Linux. I'm presently using an ATI Rage 128. It doen't give any problems, even with 3D acceleration.
I'm using MEPIS. I've also used it with Mandrake, DSL, Ubuntu, Debian and Slackware, all without any problems.

I just loaded RH9 using a Radeon 9800 128 meg card...
The rpm installed as expected, and i walked through the fgxblahblah to configure my XF86Config-4 file.
All seems fine. Not sure how to test, but I can run AA just ffine with 50+ fps.

Try to install and play tuxracer. If it plays without any problems then all went well. If you cannot play the game because it runs too slowly then 3D acceleration is not functioning.
Then again, you said that American Army works so it seems that all is well. :)
