Okay, I have a westell 2200 dual connect modem that came with my Verizon DSL . AS the name implies, the dual connect modem works with either a USB or an Ethernet cable-- only something seems to have disabled the Ethernet part of my hardware.

I can no longer connect with the Ethernet cable with either Linux or Windows. I can connect with the USB cable in Windows, however, as I'm sure many here will agree, WINDOWS SUCKS!

With just about every contemporary Linux distro I've tried, the ethernet connection to my DSL has always been automatic at boot up-- but since it's not working, I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how to enable the USB connection, so I can make it to the arrival of a new modem without kicking my computer across the room. Thanks so much! :)

Did the dhcp server get turned off in the modem configuration? Does it have a set-up screen via web browser.
And one other thing, is the ethernet cable plugged in properly?

Well, I checked the ethernet cable at least a dozen times. I think it's time to check the ISP.

OOOOKAY! I tried another ethernet cable, and all is well! Yahoo!!!
