I've got twinview working for the most part. I have a laptop with an nvidia card running at 1280x800. I then have an LCD that I'd like to run at 1280x1024. Right now the LCD is running at 1024x768 and everything is fine. But when I change the LCD to 1280x1024, the laptop's monitor goes to the same resolution, cutting off the bottom of the picture. How do I get my dual screens to run at 1280x800 and 1280x1024?
And on a related topic, is there a way for Xorg to tell automatically to use one or two screens?
I have attached my config

it looks like all your Modes (not metamodes...those look good) are set to 1280x1024...not 1280x800.
Play around with it...you're almost there.

Man, I really have no idea what to do. I've tried just about every possible setting I can think of and nothing works. I still get 1280x1024 on a 1280x800 screen. The External monitor works like a charm though.

You'll have to change your metamodes.
should read something like
Option "MetaModes" "1280x1024, 1280x800 @1280x1024"
This will set your LCD to 1280x1024 and you laptop to 1280x800 while enabling panning so you can see the rest of the screen you are loosing because of the strange 1280x800 resolution.
TO use 2 screen you'll have to look at the nvidia README (ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/1.0-6629/README.txt)
Appendix I explanes twinview with metamodes, panning and offsetting.
Appendix R is about using 2 different screens.
I tried them both and I prefer twinview since I can drag windows from on monitor to the other, but using 2 screens can be usefull too. I like it a lot when working with vmware or pearpc. I can have a fullscreen OSX or LongHorn on one monitor and my thrusty linux on the other :)
Hopes this gets you going
