Gnome has a little wastebasket icon at the bottom right panel on the screen. Where is this file/directory located? I want to create a symbolic link to it so I can put it on my desktop.

Right where you said it was. Thanks. BTW. is there any easy way to have the icon change from an empty bin to a full one when it has documents in it?

none that I know of. But I haven't used gnome in a while, so they're might be something that I don't know of.

But unless it's built into gnome, or nautilus, I don't see an easy way of doing it.

Well, I haven't used GNOME much, so I am no expert here. However, from reading some similar posts I found, I can say that normally that the trash can normally does have 'empty' and 'full' modes and the icon should display accordingly.

Possible solutions (that I haven't been able to verify):
1) Right click on the icon and there should be a dialog box that configures this.
2) Try changing the overall icon theme and see if this has any effect.
3) Look in the gconf under Apps ==> Nautilus ==> Desktop and see if there is an option.
