i thought id throw in a response to your question....

First, did you try using the mandrake control centre to set up your connection??

Is your NIC even recognized??
Dont know if you tried this already, but run these commands

"lspci"
and
"dmesg | grep eth0"
and see if it finds your nic.

Also, im sure that it will help anyone trying to help you if you mentioned how you have your computer connected...are you using a router or are you connecting it directly to the modem??, and what kind of modem do you have??

thats all i can really think of, since im no linux expert.

I thought id maybe add this as well.

If your NIC is recognized and installed then try running these commands as root:

"adsl-setup"

answer all the questions that it asks for. You will be required to enter your DNS ip address, if you dont know them, a call to your ISP should solve that problem.
Then run:

"adsl-start".....If thats not recognized then try
"adsl-run".......I cant remember which is the right command.

This might help you in setting up your dsl connection. If it doesnt, then Im afraid I have no idea how to help you...good luck!:)

How are you connected to the internet? Directly into the modem, through a router etc....

Do you have a static or dynamically assigned IP address from your ISP?

What's the output of (run as root): ifconfig -a

I can acess the net via mandrake 10.1 but i have to reconfigure the network card every time i reboot it it say it start eth0 in the boot up screen but i have to go through mcc to start the connection again. It a bit of pain as i have to use go in root to start it when i just ant to be in root mode by the way its a realtek eht card it pick up and work fine and is configured fine just doesn't auto connect to router from boot up.

RE: smoking motor

Hopefully I wont make mods mad for answering you in this thread. I had your problem when I installed 10.0, I believe the way that I fixed it was by running the "adsl-setup", "adsl-start", commands.

If that doesnt work, do a search for my name, and you should be able to find the problem and solution....I believe JohnT solved my problem.

I decided to make it easy and actually found the post my self. I think it might actually be of help to both people with the adsl problem.
