I have Fedora 2 installed on a Gateway Pentium 3 and recently noticed bars going through xwindows. If I open a blank document in, say gedit, it looks ok until I type something. At this point a light gray bar appears before, through, and following the sentence. The desktop is also effected: when I open a window on the desktop a discoloration occurs along the horizontal dimensions to the left and right of the opened window.

It is not a monitor problem as I don't have this problem with other processors.

That is odd. Could you post a screenshot?

Here is the screen shot.

I don't see anything wrong with that screenshot.

Perhaps there is something wrong with your monitor, connection to the video card, or the card itself.

I don't think it's the monitor because I don't have this problem when it's attached to a processor running RH 7.3. And, since I don't have this problem with RH 7.3 it doesn't seem that it would be the video card.

Is it possible that I have inadvertently changed a setting of some sort?

MAYBE it could be a driver issue but I doubt it. That screen shot came out flawless.

The first thing I was thinking of when I looked at the screenshot was: "seems fine to me"
Then I read your complaint...

At which I reply: "what have you been smoking?" ;)

Refresh frequencies may have this kind of effect. Compare your X configurations, especially the HSync and VSync values.
