Hi all-

Relative newbie anyway, I've installed linux a few times before, but not in many years.

I have an 80gig HD using XP and NTFS. I have another 20 gig that I want to install SUSE 9.1 pro and have the rest for filespace to be read/write by both XP and linux.

Does it make sense for me to partition the 20 gig into 2 partitions for my purposes, one for the suse install and another to be FAT32 to be read/write for both linux and XP? I guess my real question is: once I install the linux os, should i reserve space on that partition for anything else, or can most new things i would want to install to run in linux work from the FAT32 partition?

Or am I asking the wrong question entirely? :)

Thanks in advance!

It might be the time, but I don't understand what you're asking.

Here is a suggestion. Use your 20 GB disc as your master HDD; put Linux and XP both on that one as dual-boot. Then split your 80-Gig into 2 partitions; one NTFS and the other as EXT3 or reiserfs for data storage. Back up all your important files first and don't be afraid to experiment!

Instead of splitting your 80 gig in two, you could create one 80 gig FAT32 partition. Works just fine for my drive.

I have never had problems with FAT32, but I will not ever use NTFS again. (even on client machines) Never had it last more than a couple of months.
