Do you mean you are not sure how you would get Mandrake to use it or you do not know how to put it into your computer? pickarooney 11-05-2004, 07:34 AM Do you want to just add an extra drive or replace your current one? The first option is easy, you just open up the PC and connect the new drive (as slave, if you're not sure what that is, there should be a diagram with slave/master/cable select on the HDD telling you where to put the little plastic cap - the jumper). The second option would probably require a reinstallation of the root part of Mandrake, but you could copy your /home partition from the current, smaller drive over to the new HD (this requires installing the drives together temporarily, as in option one.) c0m 11-05-2004, 07:41 AM I want to connect a IDE drive and i just want to add it to the system. I guess i then have to make it a Linux Native and then mount it. But the tricky part is how i can add space for the default partions from the new drive. For exampel at this moment i have 5gb in my home partion and i want to take a part of the new hdd and add that space to the home partion. Im not using X so do you know if there is any textbased programs/scripts i can use to do this ? pickarooney 11-05-2004, 08:53 AM I would suggest that you move the entire home partition to the new drive, with rsync. What you're suggesting sounds a bit messy, to be honest. Alternatively, divide up your files into audio/video/docs whatever and order them so the bigger filetypes go to the new HD. You can just mount a partition of the new HD separately as 'data' or 'extra' or 'home 2' CoffeeMan 11-05-2004, 09:04 AM One thing that I do that would help, is make a directory in home, then mount the new drive there. I have a 10gb that is mounted like this. /dev/hdc1 /home/tobi/storage (this is what I use to store mp3s.) (Deleted by Moderator. Completely off-topic, and flamebait...) justlinux.com
