recover photos from digital camera?

Is anyone aware of a nice free (as in $) program to recover digital photos off a camera. We didn't reformat the memory stick or anything, it just doesn't see the photos anymore (unfortunately this isn't the first time this has happened; I lost >100 photos of Yellowstone :( )

Looked all through google and searched lots of forums to no avail. Free gmail invite to the winner (actually if anyone wants one, let me know).

Have you tried sticking the memory stick/card/whatever the camera uses in a reader connected to a computer?
If the camera doesn't see them I would think that is your only chance of getting the photos back.

Does gphoto work with your camera? It may be able to get the pics but you've probably already tried that....who knows. What kind of camera?

Is "it" the camera itself, as in the camera can not view/preview those pictures or perhaps it does not register the card/stick/whatever has having any data on it?

or is "it" the program you use to view the photos? Might want to invest in a $15 card/stick USB reader and hook that up to your 'puter and mount the card/stick and see what is there.

Download testdisk (http://www.cgsecurity.org/index.html?testdisk.html) and use it against the media.

testdisk (http://www.cgsecurity.org/index.html?testdisk.html) has a very good recovery rate, but don't expect to get everything back.

(Been there. Done that. testdisk (http://www.cgsecurity.org/index.html?testdisk.html) is the way to go.)

I heard of it recovering files off of a didital camera card before.....a friend of mine.
