i want to try out software raid. i need more ide channels so i am thinking about picking up a couple ata hd controller cards. was wondering if anyone had any recommendations with these things under 2.6.x kernel. i hear lots of bad stuff on promise and highpoint, so i thought id solicit some opinions here.

thanks

Any IDE Controller card should do you.

I've got an ITE RAID card, which is actually using an IT8212 controller. It's ATA/133, and works great, whether I use it as just a plain IDE controller card, or as an actual RAID card.

I think I paid $15 US with shipping for mine on eBay.

I hear promise also has good cards. A friend setup raid using a promise card on his server, and that was his first attempt a linux, he hasn't had problems
