When my computer no longer burned cd's this was the final straw. I thought it was time to start over so I reinstalled SuSe 9.1 everything was fine until I tried to install python for Superkaramba and then something happened and my computer wouldnt really boot into kde so i said what the hey and reinstalled suse again and then I had that same problem again and i had to reinstall so i just said forget it, Now afer the 3rd time of reinstalling suse i boot up and change my wallpaper etc... ( little stuff ) nothing that wwould ruin anything and to my suprise when i boot it up the next morning my splash screen jammed up and it didnt go away and then this little box came up that said CPU OVERLOAD ! then something about my sound server and before i went to school this morning i shut it down and when i came home in the afternoon i booted up and realized i have no sound xmms and kaffeine wont play any sound and I do know that my speakers are connected and all that good stuff does anyone know what i should do ? I am also growing tired of suse and im wondering how " hard " is it to install one of the other distros such as gentoo, I have tried mandrake , Redhat , Lycoris , and i didnt like any of them can anyone reccomend another distro
Thanks

Try gentoo, look here (http://www.thelinuxdisease.com/links.htm) and remember f.g.o (forums.gentoo.org) is your friend

good thought sharth, maybe a fan is out? I would also check the cpu temps, I would also be curious to see what happens while booted from a live cd

hi battalax
vida is gentoo based meaning it uses all of the same tools has gentoo including portage. let me put it this way after I installed vida I tweaked my system to my liking & I removed most of the things installed by vida, although some of the tools vida comes with by default are great. so after I had it setup the way I wanted I now am running gentoo. I used vida for the anaconda based installer:D and the vida community boards are great at helping noobs. and the gentoo community is great also IMO. be warned though you will have to change config files and edit them after emerging programs. but when you get the hang of it it is not so bad. it just takes patients to learn how gentoo does things vida comes with some gui tools but very few compared to say suse or any other the others distro's you have used previously. another cool thing about vida is that it uses the knoppix hardware config scripts to configure most hardware. the bad news is ounce gentoo is installed it is so easy to administer it can make you lazy;) at least thats what happened to me. Emerge is a great tool and I love having the latest software and I don't have to worry about waiting for a new version of gentoo to be released to get it. But gentoo will not hold your hand just any FYI
