Did you Join to flame linux?
Or do you have a point?
common' guys this is a discussion board right? Don't automatically assume the negative.....lol*....one mans preference is just another mans wound I guess.....I prefere windows for 3 main reasons.....
1)Professional-level publication layout and graphics, tools like Quark Express and Photoshop simply outstrip anything available for Linux. (I am a graphics designer, I like playing with photoshop) especially when I need some graphics for my latest web update.
2) Linux has no good games and right now, i've had no problems using windows as a work tool.....so what incentive do I have to use anything else?
3) Most Linux users (not all) tend to be rather arrogant, thinking that Linux is better simply because it's free and tax-payer dollars go to supporting microsoft. This is true, however if enough people end up using Linux and microsoft goes out the door, a couple years down the road, mabey less....Linux ends up just like microsoft with plenty of hackers and virus's to boot. There are already people with Linux "hack tools" out there....
those are my 3 main reasons, but as I said.....isn't this a discussion board? I didn't come here to 'flame'.....let's just all be cool... ...."anyone listen to rap music"? :p

True, but they are just windows users in denial, they want a 'windows replacement' not an operating system that you can make it what you want ut to do. They want graphical tools or tools that automagically do everything for you, versus learning the command line.

heh, so sue me.........i think gimp is weak (no offence)...but photoshop is easier to use, and produces alot better.....as for the games.....not impressive dude. Those don't even compare to windows games....all I have to do is list off mabey three at most : "Medal of Honor: Beachfront" , "Starcraft", and "Max Payne"....heh....there ya go.
and as for "windows users in denial" well.....just a little sample of a Linux users arrogance (no offence)
Also you should try taking up rap music.....go to mp3 .com and listen to "Chingy, Ludicris, 50 cent, and emimen"....heh heh, it's really were it's at. ;)

I noticed you listened to rap music so...
Yo, this is the JL crew up on the stage,
just representing the best operating system of the tech age,
we're a tight posse and run together,
don't let me catch you talking smack to my brothas,
lesson one, gehidore's the man,
he moderates like only he can,
so don't be talking ****,
or things ain't gonna be cool,
the JL crew ain't a bunch of fools,
now sit back and open your ears,
cause you're not going to believe what you hear.
First off, photoshop okay's
but gimp has really paved the way,
it's representing the whole new wave,
of open source software that's gonna wash you away,
maybe you're just a little afraid,
so just lay back, and commit,
grab the manual and master that *****.
Now to continue with the lesson, son
you better listen till I'm done,
games are made by companies
who are intrested in your mo-ney,
maybe you should let 'em know,
you're not opening your wallet till they show,
a little love to their open source friends,
cause we all know they'll be needing us in the end,
long story short, stop you're *****ing,
get on up and start a petition.
Now you better watch what you say,
cause you're about to have a bad day,
none of us are getting payed,
we're just here to help you on your way,
so it hurts me when you say,
we don't care, but it just the way that's got to be,
I can't help you, if you can't yourself,
so better check the attutude at the door
and remember we're all here to learn more.
Peace out.

I had worked with only WIndows when I started Linux June in year. So I am still picking my way out of the bootloaders
Last week end I dug up a DOS, Win98 and Win2000 and installed them into the box. Not that I don't like Linux, just to see how Grub cope with them on top of a XP and 20 other Linux distros.
Even if Windows can do it now with one bootloader it will be at its limit to support the 24 operating systems with enough drive letters.
The only reason I don't like Linux is it makes Windows look inferior. All things I couldn't understand booting I managed to lean it in the 4 months with Linux because everything is "open".
I am not into games or music but a computer is for computing and that is what Linux is all about.

Well if you attempt to start a Windows vs. Linux discussion in the middle of a totally unrelated screenshots thread, then yeah, your actions will be taken as a flame or trolling.
As for Photoshop being easier to use, I don't necessarily agree. I think it's just whatever you get used to first, although for many people this will be Photoshop. Since I've got pretty much no experience with either, I don't have a personal preference.
Yeah, Windows has more high-profile games. It's hard to argue that point, but that's also the reason I'm keeping my Windows partition around even when I'm done transitioning to Linux. And if Windows works for you, then be all means keep using it. For me, while Windows does what I need it to do, the level of control over the system is much more limited than in Linux. That's what's bringing me over. Oh, and spyware/viruses/script kiddies etc.
As you mentioned, yeah there are some hack tools for Linux, but not nearly as many as for Windows. With a little extra security 99% of them can be rendered harmless (true for Windows to an extent, but there will always be an easy Windows target for the reason I repeat a few times in the monolithic next paragraph).
About the last argument of Linux users being arrogant..well I don't really know about that. I haven't come across too many high-and-mighty Linux zealots. Now, this is only my opinion, but I think that Linux users are, on average, more intelligent than Windows users. Actually, "intelligent" is not the word I want to use, it's more about a willingness to learn. Where I work there isn't a single person other than the IT guy that comes in on occasion that I can have even a basic discussion about computers with. Some of the secretaries are even proud of their ignorance of how things operate, saying things like "I don't know how this stupid thing works and I don't care, so long as I can check my email and play games." They never update or scan for spyware (despite the fact that I put the tools on their computers and showed them what to do), they'll click any link they see without regard to security, and inevitably something breaks or the computer becomes infested with crap and I've got to step in and clean up. I was talking to my mom the other day after I'd gone through the family computer and cleaned out spyware, updated, and other basic maintenence things. She said "you shouldn't have to maintain a computer, it should just work." After I compared the way she used a computer to driving a car for a year and never changing the oil or rotating the tires she didn't want to discuss it any more. On the other hand, every Linux user I've met knows what they're doing and has at least a basic knowledge of computing and systems in general, and many are enthusiastic about doing so. So, from my experience, it's the willingness to learn that separates many Windows and Linux users. Maybe the "arrogance" you're noticing is coming from those users who don't really feel like going through something with someone who's not interested in learning, and is just there to "make it work."
As for the last point, I've got a couple rap songs, but for the most part I stay far away.

so is this thread about rap? or linux?
Ill throw-in with linux, then rap...
First, http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/10/22/linux_v_windows_security/ and read the attached PDF.
People who say linux is better because its free just don't get it. I am currently in a class with someone who read a magazine article about linux, and now thinks he is a linux admin. He also has a single server MS domain at home and he thinks he is a god. This is the kind of person who piss's me off, cause he turns people like you away from linux with his bs. The "free" that comes with linux is not about its dollar value, its about the "free"dom it gives you.
My biggest problem with 99% of the true linux people i have met thru LUGs and conferences is that they cant wait to help me. I ask a simple question and they are all over the problem diving thru solutions showing off how easy it is for them to help me. They would rather do it for the thrill and challange than actually teach me what is wrong.
2. No good games.
no doubt. That is a nice list, but Windows beats linux hands down around gaming today. But that is changing obviously, with the release of Doom3. I have no proof, but i hear alot of developers and movie studios write games with linux machines.
1)Professional-level publication layout and graphics, tools like Quark Express and Photoshop simply outstrip anything available for Linux. (I am a graphics designer, I like playing with photoshop) especially when I need some graphics for my latest web update.
I kindof agree, to a point, but not entirely. Straight out of the box, even KDE isn't as crisp or as clean as default Windows install. linux is blocky and clunky feeling and I can't quite explain why. However, check out the screen shot section for modern linux desktops. Even my new KDE RH9 desktop has great color, eye-popping icons and crips clean lines that default windows cant touch.
And to someone elses point, you think your apps are "easier" but just because you know them. If you had started with Gimp, Photoshop would be awkward and less-professional.
Rap, yes....I listen to a whole bunch of different music. Non-rap music has no beat....its boring at times. Funy story about driving a car and when you pass by a bunch of chicks (or dudes), noone ever turns up the Mozart.

hey man I know how you feel but I got to know the system a lot better and now I find everything works harder
1) if you know anything about the code it is much more effiecent and a virus in linux isn't as bad as a virus in windows they are more like colds
2) the software is there and there are pleny of those "arrogant people who will lend you what you need"
*3)[muy importanta] I run a comp with two hard-drives partitioned and connected with a LILO program, my good one runs Windows and my bad one has linux , but with linux it works almost better.
think about it. Linux is what people are turning to. this and open source programs that run so easily anyhting can use them.
you can contact me about the lilo, it works way awesome.
be excellent to each other and party on dude

You are an idiot and all so I just thought I'd ask you AGAIN if you want to really copy this data....what about this peice of data, ok, but what about that one? This one? But surely not this one?" error message....all the while NOT moving any OTHER data waiting for a responce.

I think it's important to point out that photoshop is _not_ part of windows. It is a separate product, while the GIMP is included right along with most linux distributions, at no extra cost.
I am not a graphics designer and have no delusions of ever becoming one. For me, the GIMP is far more than I will ever need. But I can understand why you would prefer photoshop...

That's odd... right here I seem to notice doom 3, and Unreal Tournament, to name a few. Plus all the games that run through Cedega, like warcraft 3...
