Hello
I have some questions about Damm Small linux. I only want to use the computer for surfing on the internet so if there is no hd space left after the install it does not matter.
1) Is it really true that an install on a hd will not take more than 50 mb?
2) Is it possible to use it on a 333 mhz with 128 mb ram and still have a little speed?
3) Can I install it on a 175 mb hd? Will there be enough room for swap, etc?

I've used DSL and its got a few things, but as its designed for a business card operating system its not got many features.
I know its 50mb on a CD, but unpacked and installed I don't know how big it is minimum.
DSL is a live Linux version I believe, or it was, so that you can just stick the CD in and away you go.
Your PC is more then enough to run a few versions of Linux, but if its only for surfing the net, why not just use something like Knoppix or MandrakeMove2?
As for installing it on a 175mb you should have no problems, but how old is it? I guess its very old, so its going to be a bit of a bottleneck should your RAM run out and it start using SWAP. But given that its such a small distro, I wouldn't say that your RAM would be used up, so maybe a swap placed at the start of the drive (or is it the end) of about 50mb should be fine.
If you have any other questions, I've used this site in the past: http://damnsmalllinux.org/cgi-bin/forums/ikonboard.cgi?&&CODE=04

http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/dsl-hd-install.html
How to install:
1. Create a app. 250-300MB Linux partition with cfdisk or fdisk (e.g. /dev/hda1, /dev/sda2)
Guess I do not have enough hd space :(
LiveCDs are highly compressed...uncompressed take much more space.

Damn small linux doesnt need much hard drive space at all. In fact many people run it on systems which use only compact flash cards (in place of harddrives). Heres one with 256mb card:
http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/mini.html . Here are 64mb compact flash cards, with DSL pre-installed: http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/store/embedded_storage/dsl_cf
Anyways, yes you can definatley get by with that small hard drive!
