Slovak 10-14-2004, 08:42 PM Which distro is the most ATI friendly for the 9800XT?, not which distro is the best, just the most ATI friendly to date? DimGR 10-14-2004, 10:01 PM It has to be KANOTIX. I have been using it for 6 monthes now . IT is Debian unstable only. Better than knoppix. www.kanotix.com It is a live CD with a hd installer too. If you do install it check out these files www.kanotix.com/files. 1) install the kernel sources using Mr. Kano's script 2 install the ati radeon script and you are all set. joshua28 10-14-2004, 10:56 PM Mandrake has support for my Radeon 7000 VE. 3d hardware accelaration support too. It autodetected everything and configured it just fine. Josh CoffeeMan 10-14-2004, 11:15 PM Your Face. Alex Cavnar, aka alc6379 10-15-2004, 12:54 AM Originally posted by CoffeeMan Your Face. Eh? What's that supposed to mean? Let's be nice, now... But anyways, this is a perfect thread for .iso confused. Moving it there now... Slovak 10-15-2004, 05:38 AM It is not that I am confused about .iso's, just which one for the ATI 9800XT. I know there are plenty of distro's out there that fair well in general with ATI cards, but I don't have just any ATI card, I have a 9800XT and when it first came out I had absolutely no luck getting it up and running on ANY linux distro, even when the first ATI linux drivers came out due to kernal problems. When it comes right down to making a choice between linux or my 9800XT, the 9800XT will win every time, unless a distro plays nice with it, that's why I am here. Hayl 10-15-2004, 08:02 AM if it will work under one distro, then it is possible to get it to work under any distro... support for that card is not really a "distro"-specific thing, it is a matter of tracking down the correct driver/software and getting it to work. some distros may include it but i dont see how that makes it any better supported when you can just get the driver and use it on any distro. Gentoo has specific instructions that include 9800 ATI Cards: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/ati-faq.xml (Apparently all/most ATI boards are support by X.org in 2D and 3D is supported by DRI.) justlinux.com
