I would just like to point out, despite the fact that it has taken me a long time to learn how to use linux, its free. Something that works this well, and is free is just such an amazing thing, that I can't really believe it. As a christian it agrees with my moral center, which is something that I NEVER thought I would say about software. I was just wondering if anyone else felt this strongly about how awesome the opensource movement is and what it is doing for people all over the world.

imho

the main problem i see with that whole site is that the morons who are complaining are complaining about specific software products that can happen to run on linux (and other unixes, bsds).

perhaps they should complain about linux its self and not oss software, then their site might make sense.

wow!
those people have some serious issues!!

i like how one guy keeps posting a link to "linux vulnerabilities" which actually is a link to a list of vulnerabilities that have been fixed and provides links to the patches available for download.

Theyre using some quite colourful/mature/intelligent language as well :)

IMHO zelorty sp? is a bad thing no matter what it is about, but if these people want to waste there time and energy bashing an OS that they have most likely not given a fare chance let them.

Don't listen to them, those people are just a bunch of ignorant jackasses.

A distinctly appropriate critique of the site if there ever was one:D

I believe it's zealotry, just an FYI ;)

But, I agree with Hayl on this one. With all they're gripeing about, they may as well be gripeing about OS X. Heck, lots of OSS stuff runs on Windows, so they could do that too! :D

I hate Linux too.

I just want an OS that can brew my coffee, wash my clothes, and do my work for me... why can't Linux do that?

Yeah, with emotional complaints like this.......

"What about something else, like Phoenix. It's spectacular except for the fact that the default font size is 8pt. You know, that has to be the most often used - - not 14 or 12, but I bet that if you go around, you will find that most people use size 8. Once again, what idiots do this crap?"

It just shows that their little monopoly is fading to a technically superior OS.

These folks act just like my 3-year old: he gets mad and throws a fit when his toys don't work the way he wants them to.

Fscking grow up.

Hmm...... i was looking for a site worthy of having my virus-infected Windows zombies dDOS attack on this weekend..... i think i just found it.

I only wish.... Seriously tho, Hayl has a point. The site complains about all of the open source software, and mentions nothing about the foundation and what is actually WRONG with the OS itself. Cult ignorance at its best.....

Well, someone just needs to go in and post this, over and over:

Nazis! You win! It's over!

Of course, being Windows zealots, they probably won't get it...

G'day mate, I was new to Linux about a year ago, I started with RH 7.3 (for a VOIP project) and moved on to Suse 9.x

I love Linux and the Freedom it offers plus I am not made of money so the price was right about $80 Canadian for thousands of dollars worth of software (Suse boxed set)

Who could complain?

The people that do not want to Learn and RTFM and do not understand why we use Linux and never will and the losers that just want to cause problems. “AKA Trolls”

Why do we even have these “debates” of “How to impress windows users” (Who cares) or “101 reasons to hate M$” “Irate people who hate Linux” Bla Bla Bla.

If “I” were a moderator I would not even allow these meaningless threads on this board it just wastes time and take us away from talking about our favourite OS.

Come on guys and girls lets keep this board true to it’s name “JUSTLINUX!”

Funny...... They have four domains that are some sort of rendition of linuxsux and a squirrelmail server. All running Linux and Appache. I wonder why the hypocrisy.

ozdream,

it's in the /dev/random section, and computer-related, therefore it is allowed.

also i think you misread the original post... it was not a troll... he was pointing it out a humorous web site (which everyone has been laughing at including me).

Well, needless to say, i completely disagree with everything the negs had to say on that site, it is all too obvious that they have never been able to install and run linux of any distro.

Having said that though, I still defend their right to say what ever they want, it is their right. ( they are wrong of course) but it is their right. hell I have seen worse Windows bashing right here on JL. so everyone has a right ro be wrong :)

On a humorous note, I agree.

Going an hour without defecating in one's trousers impresses and mystifies the object windoze user--if the crowd over at LSX is any accurate indicator.
There just isn't a valid reason to discuss it to death.

In the spirit of that very thought, I *did* send them a crate of LSX logo-ed diapers; which should keep their Prolific Portland Poster astonished for at least the next six months or so. ;)
(If only he wouldn't drool so much!)

I love Linux-- and yes, learning how to use it has been a long painful struggle. Anybody who wants to spare themselves the struggle has my blessing, but for me it was worth it. What else would I be doing with my computer if not learning how to run Linux? One can only download so much free music and porn.

These guys? Yeah, I think they have issues. Someone probably got dumped by a Linux geek or something.

I am a fully paid up member of the MCSE community and i totally disagree with the LINUXSUCKS.ORG as i have been battling to understand linux distros for nearly 5 years now, i keep battling on not because linux sucks because it is my brain being washed by the mighty msoft corp who sell you on the ease of use, prefer stability and cost effectiveness.

Also to add that i have just installed suse 9.2 and found it refreshing that i had no work to do at all, i am still trying to understand the concept of !!! building an instal!!

BUT Linux does not suck in anyway, i think it is more the people who dont understand it that suck and dont give it time to learn

One thing that bugs me lately is when I hear people say "Linux is free" I know what they are thinking is "It's $0.0". When these same folks whine (because they need to RTFM) I tell them to take their install cd's back to the store for a full refund. I don't care if it costs $100, it's the source code that makes it free, not the price.

On desktoplinux, there was for several years a really nasty guy who not only trashed Linux big-time. He also announced in plain English that he would not permit anyone to say Linux was great, because it was a lie.

After a couple years, he finally slipped up and admitted that his real problem was he couldn't get it to work on some old busted up machine he had. In his conceit and arrogance, it never occurred to him that the rest of us not only got it to work, but it really did work great for us.

Actually, there were two of them, and the other one got it to work first. As soon as he got it to work, he immediately became a great Linux fan.

So, you are absolutely correct. Those who bash Linux either were installing it on a junky computer, too tight to get even a good used machine, or weren't smart enough to make it work. Real experts.

irlandes
06-25-2005, 07:50 PM
Yep, I just went and looked at their nonsense. They have all the marks of those who weren't smart enough to make it work on their busted up junk, thus concluding the rest of us who are clearly dumber than they are, are simply lying about Linux.

Very true je_fro. What makes gnu/linux awesome is that you get all the source code...regardless of price - free software. You aren't stuck in the dark to how something works.

Richard Stallman (founder of GNU) came and talked at my university, and I had the ability to go and see him talk. He emphisized freedom of knowledge and how everyone should be able to share their ideas. It's like a big community sharing ideas to make everyones lives better. That is the awesome thing about gnu/linux.

I am new to Linux, and after putting a computer together with my bf i felt brave enough to format and Install Linux Mandriva (I played with Suse also) and even though I am frustrated at certain things, like my sound doesn't work, I can't get the program for my Creative Nomad to work and my Laptop overheated and shut down I still love Linux, so all you ****ing people that don't like Linux SUCK.....

I love Linux, down with Microsoft

deef86 : it took me around 3 moths to learn the ins and outs of rudimentary linux . Now , Im running a source-based distro , and my whoel sytem is compiled from source. Only binary i used was for OOo. It takes a bit to get hardware to work, but if you look hard enough , im quite sure you can find stuff for your needs

I particularly like the post by rook that the 2 -ve posts are from 1 person.

Its a dramatic win for linux since the language used and all are supportive of linux.

However, I hate it when people still use old names of software to represent software which already have a different name. It only shows antiquity in the innards of the poster.

Finally, I think the poster sounded like those from M$ themselves. (Or from the OpenBSD developer...)

I am going to get me a user name then write a poem titled "Why I love Linux" and post in on there. I advice you all to do the same. It would be quite interesting.
