Hi, I hear that the partition manager on Mandrake 10.0 will screwup partition tables if I resize Windows XP partition during installation.

Are there any good freeware partition managers I can use to avoid this problem so that I can partition before I install my linux installation?

Thanks.

If you have updated or used the "restore point" on WinXP at all, a partition manager may not work. When you run defragment on your WinXp partition, look and see if there are some "unmovable" files on the far right. Those are your restore files. The way I have to do it is wipe out WinXP, reinstall it, and do not update or install anything until I resize the partition. The I can run updates and install drivers and things.
If you can afford it, a separate HD is the best solution. If you live in the USA, CompUSA had some 60 GB Maxtor 7200 HD on sale for $29.95 this week (the store price, not "after the rebates" price).

You mean CompUSA did have 60GB hard drives for $30.00.

Not a bad deal, though. :)
