I just installed Slack 9.1, because I had it laying around. I'm dual-booting with Windows XP. I know that Slack works with my system and most of the install must have gone ok, because I can boot up fine with the boot floppy made during the install. However, when I boot Slack from LILO it stops mid-boot with the phrase "Kernel Panic: No Init Found. Try passing init= option to kernel". Does anyone know what might cause this scenario to occur, and how I might go abotu fixing it?

I just had a thought. I set all my partitions except for the swap to use reiserfs. Could it be that the default bare.i kernel (I think it's 2.4.22) in Slack 9.1 doesn't support reiserfs? I think I will retry the installation this evening using ext3 instead. Does anyone think this might actually solve my issue?

Yes, that might be it - unless you made a 'initrd' to load the reiserfs module prior to booting the kernel?

Most commonly, ext2 are used for /boot.

Cheers :)

I think that is it. I didn't make an initrd command, and I';m not really familiar with how to do so. I will re-install but make my /boot sector a ext2 partition.

Nearly all of my Linux experience has been with gentoo. The idea of starting over to reinstall with Slack is certainly much more appealing than it was with gentoo! :)
