My dads computer crashed last night. I downloaded Knoppix so I could boot up transfer files from his HD to my comp before I reformat it. I booted up Linux but the problem is that its all in German. In the lower right hand corner there was a little German flag so I changed that to a US option thinking that would change the language but it didnt. Is there a way to change it to English??

When you've rebooted Knoppix from your hard disk, click on the KDE Control Centre ...Choose the locale and language of your choice.

When you boot up use lang=gb or what ever language you want, so it would be 'knoppix lang=gb'. You can view the different boot options by pressing the 'F' keys I belive the langauge is explained by pressing 'F2'.

If that's possible then it would be 'knoppix lang=en' for U.S., in his case, wouldn't it? There is a slight difference, not enough to worry about at bootime I would think, but I would change it if possible once to the desktop.

Yeah it would be knoppic lang=en for the US. There will probably be a couple of differences if he used the UK on instead of the US, but like you said nothing to huge. If his just using to rescue the files from his dad's computer it probably wont matter if its US english or UK, aslong as its English :)
