BaVinic 09-07-2004, 02:51 PM The way I do it is to open a terminal window, and type: eject /mnt/cdrom then put the second CD in. and click continue. does not always work, and I have never tried it on Vice City. so let me know if it does work please. BaVinic Bowtie 09-07-2004, 04:05 PM I'm glad someone has had success with wine-x. I tried it and it blows goats. I couldn't even get freakin' Myst to install and run (that's how basic of a game I tried as a last ditch effort). The multiple CD thing also pissed me off. BaVinic 09-07-2004, 05:30 PM What Distro of Linux are you running? and what kernel version?/ Don't give up on it, it does work, you may just have to tweak it a bit. BaVinic Bowtie 09-07-2004, 05:54 PM Distro is Suse 9.0 with kernel (don't laugh, I never thought to check which one.....doh!!!) 2.4.21-243. Maybe I should compile 2.6.x and then ***** huh? LOL I can't neccesarily say I'm giving up on it. It's just not working for me at this point in time. Maybe as they progress (doesn't look like they have made much headway in the past two years......) I'll give it another shot. For me, I can't justify paying for something that doesn't work, in my particular case. I'm sure there are others out there that it works great for. Oh well, Crossover Office on the other hand freakin' rocks. Of course I have no idea why I installed it, since I never use M$ Office anymore......LOL I guess out of curiosity.:D BaVinic 09-07-2004, 06:01 PM I've never used it in Suse, but one of the guys in my lan party uses winex3.2 and everything we play, works in Suse no problem, i wil talk with him this weekend and see if he had to do anyting "odd" to get it to work. I use winex3.2 to play: SOF1 Star Trek Voyager: Elite Forces Half Life ( and all lost children of half-life) I used to use it for more games, but the games I run are now being written for Linux, so I have less and less use for it. Crossover is kewl, but like you said, i never use it either. too many Linux native applications to waste resource. :) Anyway, keep kicking at it, Winex will work, and in the mean time I will talk with my friend, and see if there are any little tricks you should know. BaVinic bwkaz 09-07-2004, 06:37 PM With WineX, you are still bound by the rules of the underlying operating system kernel (in this case, Linux). One of those rules is that while an IDE CD-ROM drive is in use, its door is locked shut. The only way to unlock the door is to umount the filesystem that's on the CD (or patch the kernel with supermount, which is what Mandrake seems to like -- however, supermount also seems to break a lot of Loki installer games). What you need to do is this: 1) Insert CD 1 and mount it. 2) cd (move to your home directory -- actually, just cd to some directory that's not inside the CD drive mount point) 3) winex /mnt/cdrom/setup.exe (substitute your CD drive mount point for /mnt/cdrom here, and substitute the correct setup filename for "setup.exe") 4) Run through the CD 1 portion of setup. When it asks you for CD 2, then switch to a terminal (if you have to, do a ctrl-alt-f2 and log in there), and umount the first CD's filesystem. Then switch CDs (you should be able to now, since umounting the FS will unlock the drive door), and mount it again. Then switch back to the setup program (probably ctrl-alt-f7 if you used ctrl-alt-f2 to begin with -- if you're not sure, just hit alt-leftarrow until you find your GUI screen again), and continue. xlilo 09-08-2004, 07:41 PM hi, i managed to get the cd drive open and gta vice city dont work, it installs but it dont play, i also tryed splinter cell too, and that also installed but dident play, if anyone has had any luck with thease two games let us know, i am also running suse 9.0 with kernel 2.4.99 athlon, i will soon be upgrading to suse 9.1 with kernel 2.6. thanks for all ya help guys. xlilo. cybertron 09-08-2004, 11:02 PM Have you checked the TransGaming (http://www.transgaming.com) forums and such to see if anyone else has had your same problem? justlinux.com
