Is install-x86-universal-2004.2.iso the file I want? There is only 1 CD for the install?

I believe there are additional CDs if you want a few precompiled ebuilds to get you off to a quick start.

yep it's just one cd, you may want to read through the Gentoo documentation before you attempt the install http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/index.xml#doc_chap1
or you could install vida Linux using anaconda, see my sig vida is gentoo based and makes the install pretty quick & easy, it has saved me well numerous times when I have borked my system

edit read the install docs to help you can choose the type of install you want to do and this will help you pick the correct cd also:D
