I just got myself one of those fancy GMail accounts from Google, and so far I have only been able to send an email back to my buddy for inviting me. After a couple of secs I get an email back from Google saying that my email couldn't be delivered. It says the reason is"PERM_FAILURE: DNS Error: Misformatted domain name" I dunno what that is, and apparently neither does Google, cuz when I did a search on Google it finds NOTHING!!!!
How about that one!

BTW, I had no problems importing my contacts list from *another web-based mail svc* into a spreadsheet(openoffice.orgCalc of course), saving it as a .csv file(as per Google's instrcts-Thank You) and then uploading it to GMail.

Well it is beta. Maybe you should send your issue on as feedback, it could be a bug they need to fix.

Turns out it was my fault; when I copied my contacts list into the spreadsheet many of my contacts email addresses got messed up, for example, anyname@hotmail.com got cut down to anyname@hotmail.c....
DOH!!!!!:p
