Hey all,
Just wanted to post my utter disgust with Windows... yeah yeah... flamebait... seriously though, My son was born 5 weeks ago and the week before I decided to switch back to Windows so I wouldn't spend so much time messing with my computer. I have to say, I don't... I only use it for web browsing and email. Using my computer isn't as fun or enjoyable with Windows as it was with Linux. I miss the "coolness" and simplicity of GNOME for a desktop. I'm sick of the ballon pop-ups from Windows' taskbar telling me everytime my wireless connection fluctuates or that I have unused desktop icons... Windows is just so blah and annoying compared to Slackware. Anyways, the point of this post is not to start a flame war about why Windows sucks and Linux rocks... just to say that this weekend I am wiping Windows off my hardrive and putting Slackware back on... and what the hell was I thinking? ;)

Maybe we should start a Weaning Off Windows support group? WOW...

Besides, this will give you something to do at 3 A.M. while you're waiting for the baby bottle to warm up. :)
Congratulations on a newborn child and newborn installation, maybe they can grow up together.

Thanks for the congrats guys! Looking forward to yet another Linux install... at least I kept all of my config files so this should be fairly painless!

Congrats on your newborn. The weaning of windows course sounds good, or if you never boot windows at least delete the damn partition. I read on another post, which i thought was so true about windows, it read "Let go of the comfort blanket"...lol

I still have windows installed on another partition, i'm still partial to Photoshop and Dreamweaver, lately though i have been questioning whether i really need them. To be honest i never use the WYSIWYG option in dreamweaver, i prefer to do it by hand. I only do light graphics so why do i need photoshop, Gimp could take care of everything.

Unfortunatly i am still grasping a corner of the comfort blanket .

Cheers

So there may be a little Swiss roll baking in your oven, too?
Do you think Linux is making its users more fertile as well as computer savvy? Windows as birth control- no wonder it's the number one OS! :D
(Or is this a function of less OS maintenance being performed and more time for other activities. )

I still have Win2k on a 30GB drive, I only use it for the very occasional game and work stuff. But I really wonder why I'm not using any of that other 20GB left and fill up my /home with crap...hmmm, I think I found more storage space! :D

Too bad Transgaming only ported Tron 2.0 to the Mac...I'd buy that game again if it was ported to Linux ;)

You may be on to something here HC...

Perhaps, with Linux, the primary user spends so much time with their fancy Linux install, that the significant other gets jealous, and gets the primary user's attention the best way they know how. Anyway, congratulations on lupin_the_4th.

His child will mature at a much higher rate than M$ windows, guaranteed.

Oh yes, no doubt about that. Which leads us to another problem of parenting: if you forbid Windows to your children, will it keep them off from it or will it just rise their curiosity and make them secrtely install it once mom and dad are gone out to celebrate their wedding anniversary?

Nope, no Swiss rolls baking here. The good thing about real life virus protection is that it also keeps networked computers from copying their config files onto new hardware. ;)
Besides, you people across the ocean get constantly cheated by your marketers, there's nothing Swiss about Swiss rolls - the first time I had one in my life ever was in the US, as a matter of fact. :D

Let them, after using Linux for years they will load Windows understand why it's not used at home :D

I see it happen: in 20 years from now shady characters will hang around the schoolyards and try to trick our children by offering free CDs to them. "Aren't you tired of daddy's old-fashioned Linux? I've got a free Windows CD here for you. Just try it, there's no risk, and I'm sure you will like it when you enter the new realms of consciousness..."  ;)
