Would I be able to install Fluxbox on Knoppix or Mepis? I just found my SuSE 9.0 Pro cds but I think i'll pass and be a bit daring and install something that is NOT SuSE. :D

I just want to know if Fluxbox will be installable on Mepis and Knoppix?

If I remember correctly, fluxbox is an option when you are booting Knoppix. That means it's on the Knoppix disk, so all you have to do is install it...

And since Knoppix _is_ Linux, I would imagine that you could always install it from source... :D

Fluxbox should install on Knoppix and Mepis - it certainly comes with Knoppix, and if it's not on Mepis it would be a simple job to apt-get install it

Sweet!

The only thing I noticed about Knoppix is that is a mandatory LiveCD type deal. Can I not install on HD if I want to?

There is a hd install script included.

Same with mepis (although mepis was always designed to be installed to hdd despite being a livecd, whereas in Knoppix it was more of an afterthought)

i have used the knoppix hd install quite successfully, infact i had it running my server for a while, then i switched it over to redhat for kicks. but yes knoppix is a decent little hd distro. now if you really want to get into learning linux do a stage1 gentoo install

In knoppix, enter this at the initial prompt when booting from CD-

knoppix26 desktop=fluxbox

You can also set your screen resolution by adding

knoppix26 desktop=fluxbox screen=1280x1024

or any other standard resolution you prefer.

These are called cheatcodes or boot parameters. You can view lists of available codes by pressing F2 or F3 at the initial prompt.
