Just curious how many people here make use of the Bit Torrent technology and sites like Suprnova.Org.

I believe in BT, and use it, but only for things you are supposed to redistribute (linux isos, etc.)

I use BitTorrent occasionally, but not often. I'm using it right now to download Slackware 10.0 and getting 300 kb/s :D

Only use it to get Linux distros that I want to try...I can't find any other reason to use it, want a movie? go and buy it. You get a cool plastic case to store it in :)

BT is an innovative (not in the way gates abuses the word) use of technology.

I don't use it though. In my paradigm, it falls short of best-practices in security.

I use bittorrent all the time to download live legal lossless audio in SHN and FLAC format. The files are huge so it's nice that everyone contributes to sharing it while they download. Although there are still plenty of leeches out there that don't do there fair share of sharing.

http://bt.etree.org is the main site i use if anyone is curious.

So far I've used it to download *several* copies of WinXP (all but one turned out to be in a language other than english), Win98, Win 3.11, DOS, games for the Dreamcast, Linux ISO's, FreeBSD, NetBSD, and music albums. I also leave the bit torrent client up so that other people can enjoy my bandwidth. Yes, I shamelessly steal.

Bittorrent stopped working for me; its kinda weird, I know I have it installed, but when I go to download something firefox says "No appropriate application found."
I've installed the latest firefox, just not sure why its not using bittorrent when I go to download something. I just have bittorrent that comes with Mandrake10. Anyone else run into this problem?

Well, all you have to do is find the link of the torrent you want, save the link on disk somewhere, open up your bit torrent client, and open the torrent file you saved on disk. It's harder than just clicking a link, but it works. You can set Firefox to open up your bit torrent client when you click on a *.torrent link, but I'm not sure how you'd make the client open the link you just clicked.

why would you want to admit to using something that can be used for illegal downloading?
