There is an opportunity for Linux to get another great game, maybe even right out of the box. Show your support guys. Go to

Obsidian Entertainment Forums (http://forums.obsidianent.com/)

The thread is located at ...

Obsidian Forum Community > Neverwinter Nights 2 > Suggestions - General - The linux Poll

And cast your vote. Even if its not your kind of game its just another way to support the linux community.

Peace,

Steve

Ya show your support just like everyone did for the full version of tuxracer.............

sunspirestudios.com does not exist anymore! and tuxracer.com is really
non functional as is the tuxracer forums..................

the linux community really knows how to make an impact..........

I'm glad I bought MY Full version of tuxracer before the company went
under.........and NO I won't burn copies of it and give/share/sell it to
anyone..................too bad if you did'nt support this game and buy the
full version............

I must admit Im a little lost, what are you talking about? The current neverwinter nights game has a pretty solid linux following, and I dont see Bioware or Obsidian going under any time soon.

Maybe Im just not getting your point here, but you'll need to purchase the full version of the game to play it, just like nwn1.

He's talking about TuxRacer (which seems a bit of a stretch from NWN).

See, the TuxRacer game used to be a free download. Then Sunspire Studios (the company that owns TuxRacer) decided to start making people pay for it (I don't know if you got source with the game, or if it was no longer open source either). They still offered the source for version 0.61 for download to everybody, but never put out any updates or anything for it.

I have a feeling that that's the reason very few people didn't pay for it -- an older version was still available, and that older version had been free (as in speech and as in beer), period. You can't give something to people, then take it away, and expect them to like it...

(And please, nobody bring up Loki Games -- they went bankrupt because their CEO was deciding to spend revenue on large TVs for him and his wife, rather than stuff like employee salaries. That's why they went bankrupt, not because nobody was buying from them.)

There's a new multi-platfom thread where many Linux and Mac owners are asking Atari to allow Linux and Mac ports to be shipped.
Neverwinter Nights 2: multiplatform support (http://http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?p=8070662)
Please express you intent (if so) to purchase a Linux or Mac port (and especially if you won't buy the Windows-only box).

If NWN2 fails us buy this, http://penumbra-overture.com/, try the tech, it can run under Wine perfectly, but the final version is going to have Linux out of the Box. This game blind sided me, I was amazed by how good the interaction is you can have with the environment. The tech demos graphics are a little rough, but the final screen shots look great. Don't let the bad opening dialog throw you off, I think they shoved it in the tech demo at the last moment. It comes out Early 2007. This will either be a good game, or one of the greats.

Yeah, that was amazing. Written by four college students in less than a year for their final probject too. I hadn't heard that they were releasing a Linux version of the sequel, but I will definitely be getting it in that case. It's one of the creepiest things I've played too because you have no traditional weapons so when something attacks you (granted, that rarely happens in the tech demo) you have to frantically start looking for another way to stop it. Here's a tip: locking things in rooms doesn't work.;) Not sure whether that will still be the case in the next one, but I liked it.

BTW, when I played I found that I had to leave my mouse perfectly still when the game was starting up or it would constantly slide in one direction or the other. It doesn't seem to happen anymore, but depending on your Wine version it might come up. Also, don't have Folding running or it runs horribly, although that goes for any game in Wine.

HOLY CRAP!
I just watched the trailer and it looks fantastic.
I love the amount of interaction in the game. How you have to move the mouse to actually open/close things and not just click on objects.
