like born from or living at from?

living : delaware, USA
born : massachusets, USA

hmm.. wonder if they should kill the thread though. since this isin't much better than some of the other threads that have died... we're far more linux centric without the frivolous comedy anymore..

If everyone simply typed in their location into their membership details then we would not need threads like this one. I just assume most of you are ashamed of where you live because including it would have no significance from a personal privacy information aspect.

Call me old fashioned (but not old) or an idiot but I am quite proud of where I live (and from) and not afraid to say so.

I am always interested in a posters place called home, it makes the conversations with them seem more real and much less abstract. Nowadays anonimity has been taken to ridiculous lengths even to using these confounded pseudonyms which I hate but seem forced to use.

Sharth and DimGR, you could set an example to others by going into your membership data section right now and putting in your details now, since you are both proud residents of USA and Greece (both lovely countrys)
By example, more may follow.

At one other Linux site I changed my avatar from a graphic to a photo of myself (it had nothing to do with vanity.......good lord, at my age ???) and now quite a number have also done so, so now we can see the persons we are communicating with.

Example starts new practices.
Cheers. John

Well, I indicated my city of birth and uploaded a true photo of myself as my avatar - the StarCraft medic looked a lot better, though... ;)

I was born and live in West Virginia, The Mountain State. StarTiger is about 100 miles east of me. Regardless of the economy I could not think of another place I would rather live. I have a beautiful 7 acre yard (Lot's of mowing) and free gas. My kids are free to play and I don't have to worry about them. The nearest "town" has a population of 3, no kidding either. My nearest neighbor is a mile away and I am his closest neighbor. Life is good here in the hills. If we only had cable or dsl, it would be better. I have to limp along with a satellite connection which wouldn't be bad if I didn't have bandwidth caps enforced. I will change my avatar to me I guess, but it will be henceforth know as my "uglytar":D

Amen to that, that's exactly how I feel about mine. :D I think AussieJohn still has the coolest portrait, though he probably wouldn't agree. :D What really struck me was Waystar's portrait, though, because she looks exactly the way I figured she'd look like.

You may, but I have the Big Sur and all it's beauty at my doorstep, Silicone valley up the road and if I need to see a city, San Fran is about an hour and half away (I go once a month to see my Spanish lady friend.) Great (although overly expensive!) place to live. The best of Oregon, Washington and California right here!

Oh did I mention the fresh fruits and veggies as well as *hic* the vinyards in Carmel and up north of me?

OK- we haven't had one of these threads in a while, so why not? It is good to get an idea of who we all are and where we come from, soooo...

1. Yes- I truly am a Wombat, as my pic clearly shows. We wombats are actually quite intelligent and have also a good set of claws on our feet, so it shouldn't come as any surprise that we're very well suited to online tech support.

2. I've been living in Fairfax California for the past 7-8 years and absolutely loving it. Fairfax is located about 20 miles above San Fransisco, and the area (and the people) are friggin' great; couldn't imagine a better place to live.

3. I spent most of my life in Syracuse NY (Dad was a professor at SU), and then spent about 8 years working in NYC before moving west to take a job in Berkeley, CA.

These were exactly my thoughts when I read that post. :) I decided I will open a new thread on my wedding day to broadcast the happy message to have it locked five minutes later because it's not connected to Linux, Technology, or the Community... oh wait, it DOES relate to the community since marriage is hopefully the the gate into a land of more little penguins. :) Dang, now I know how we're going to win this OS war. :D

Hey, nko, I wish you good luck and a great future together with your wife! :)

Congrats, nko!

I got married almost exactly one year ago. I played Frozen Bubble on Knoppix while my sister fixed my hair. (I always bring a live distro CD with me when I go "back home.")

Good luck on the move, too.
