I've been noticing that most of the linux users on this forum appear to be around 20 to thirty years of age. I myself am 15, and I'm just curious of how old you all are, I only know of two other linux users who are my age. Are there more on here?

I think most of them are almost through college now :)
I'm 31, and I think that's about the mid range as I know we've had/have members that are 60+ here
So, Linux is for everyone! :p

perhaps this is a better indicator of the age demographic of this forum
cause i'm thinking of all those unix guys that have probably moved over to linux
i'm thinking linus will be 35 this year (http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/linus/)
but i'm also thinking there's a world of high school geeks and nerds that i'm sure have put linux on their home system

Well....the 27 year-old is actually my wife's daughter from a previous marriage, but she's been my daughter too, since she was 16.
I have to confess that the younger 5 are directly "my fault." ;)

53 years old with a 15 year old daughter
BJ is my little kernel that I've had to develop with the assistance of others over the years. She's got modules, interfaces, masking, all kinds of stuff added. Now these young hackers are trying to take my kernel away! (Sob, sob). And she wants to get a drive now! Ever since her GUI has gotten fancier, the money needed for maintenance has increased.
And one day, she'll be developing her own kernels.
Now I need to find a co-developer since the first one has left.
Been using Linux for about 4 years now, finally realized what the heck was going on about 2 years ago. (It is hard to teach a old dog new tricks).
By the way, any of you young fellows going to be the next Bill Gates and are interested in an arranged marriage in about 7 years when BJ finishes college?

My advice -- to prevent hackers from spreading viruses and spawning new processes, make sure you provide your kernel with the latest patches. :p

I use to be pure Mac but I started using Linux along side mac about a year or so ago, and have always been Windows free forever except for when we had a windows 98 box for a couple months, but rarely used it. And I can happily say it is no longer living:D

I'm 21 years old, my first linux install was when I was in 7th grade, so I guess I was 12 or 13 years old. It's worth noting I installed Linux, but what I did with it wasn't much. I think around 14 was when I finally started to get a clue of what I was doing. There have been periods in between that I didn't even touch computers, so I haven't been using it all that time, but it's been awhile.

Its funny how this thread seems like a "Windows Anon." session. People are all like "I been windows free for 2 years" heheheh just thought that it was funny. Me personally I use both for the simple fact that my girlfriend likes windows....but I got her to accept Linux as a second friend when I introduced her to Limewire....and the fact that (as of right now) you dont really worry about viruses too much. :)
take care and may you stay "Windows Free" for life...if thats what you want :)

I think I beat most of you. I am 69yrs 8mths and have been into Linux for about 3yrs. Most of this 3yrs has been with Mandrake and now am using Mandrake-10-OE with great pleasure and satisfaction. I use it for its functionality and ease of use (and easy install) and not for its toy or geek benefits which seem to be the main attraction for most of the other Linux OSs.
No doubt I'll be flamed for it but that wont change the facts no matter what the flamers say.
However everyone, enjoy Linux whatever one you use.
Cheers. John.

My roomie has been showing that attitude ever since I got linux and I thought I'll be never able to convince her. Two weeks ago she suddenly produced the idea of buying a linux-laptop when her Win2000 crashed. Let's quote Jake Blues: "The Lord works in mysterious ways."

I am 37, been using Linux since 1999. Started when Win98 crashed hard and took a very important word document with it... that I needed to turn over to my Division Officer the next morning. We shall say it was a very unpleasant day for me!
I cut my teeth on Mandrake 6.0 and have since moved to SuSE 9.1, stopping along the way to try with various levels of success:
Debian - Failed totally to install...
Slackware - Unable to get graphics working...
FreeBSD - Ummm out of my skill level at the time...
BeOS - Everything worked better and faster than either Linux or Windows! To bad they are belly up :(
Caldera - Didn't like it for some reason or other...
Red-Hat - Lousy package management, flaky graphics support a pain in the @ss at best...
Libranet - Everything worked and I liked it, but for some reason I stopped using it... can't remember why...
Now keep in mind that the last 2 years have been 100% SuSE and that I have not really tried anything else (okay I did try Mandrake again... it was worse than Windows!) so I am sure that I could probably get all the above systems working again if I wanted too. But why mess-up what I have now?
