Hey BSD users, to those of ou who crossed over from nix, or vice-versa, what are the main differences between FreeBSD and Linux? And between the BSD's? Do they both use BASH w/ similar commands? Are the kernels similar? Where did the BSD kernel come from? Does Gnu have anything to do w/ BSD? Will tarballs meant for nix compile under BSD? What is the standard C compliler that BSD uses? What desktop managers do the BSD distributions use and provide? Thanks for the input()...

OK, dumb*ss, RTFM... I must be getting lazy. The FreeBSD site has an excellent FAQ, that actually has a section specifically for linux users migrating to FreeBSD... For anyone who's curiousity was piqued by my post:
the faq (http://www.openbsd.org/faq/index.html)
for nix users (http://www.openbsd.org/faq/faq9.html)

Okay, but anecdotally, what are the views of those who've migrated to one of the BSD's from nix? How do you feel they compare in the areas that mean the most to you? Is there as much documentation_support_packages as there are for linux? How do the various BSD's stackup against each other? I've heard good things about NetBSD...
But hey, that's OpenBSD!
