initrd.img freeze

this might be a very simple problem. i am trying to install fedora core 2 and after choosing graphic setup i get:

vmlinuz......
initrd.img .....

it seems that at this point it fails and then reboots the system.

wondering if this has anything to do with the fact that i tried to recompile my kernel and failed miserably.

i don't think it's a bad disc. i used that disc to install on another machine. also, i burned another disc super slow and it gives the same error. tries initrd.img and then crashes. has anyone seen this before??
