I am putting together a new box from scratch. It will have an athlon xp 3200+ processor and 512mb ram. I would like suggestions on video card brands or chipsets that are easiest to set up in linux. i know that some are harder to setup and cause more problems than others, and I want something simple so I don't waste all my time trying to install the video card. I currently run MDK 10.0 on all my computers but with this new box I would be trying out different distros as well.

For simplicity, all NVIDIA cards use the generic nvidia driver from NVIDIA.com, so it should be very common, and headache-saving too. For performance you may like an ATI, but you have to do more for the drivers.

Oh, this is very common and please search before asking.

It depends on what you are looking at doing. If you want 3D I would recommend going with a nVidia card mainly because of the support. I have never had a problem configuring my GeForce 440MX card at home with the downloads from the nVidia site.

I would recommend staying away from Intel video chipsets. I have had a lot of problems with onboard cards at work not getting better res than 640x480 and I have had to add ATI Rage cards to the systems to get any better res.
