I'm trying to get my Kodak CX 6230 working under Mandrake 10 with a custom 2.6.7 kernel. I've also had trouble under stock Mandrake kernels though. Everything I've been able to find suggests that this camera should be automatically detected, but mine isn't. It recognizes that I've connected a USB device, but doesn't give me a /dev/sda? item to mount. Here's all it says in dmesg and /var/log/messages:

dmesg:
input: Logitech USB Receiver on usb-0000:00:1d.0-1.4
usb 1-1.3: USB disconnect, address 18
usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using address 2
usb 2-1: USB disconnect, address 2
usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using address 3

/var/log/messages:
Jul 14 21:48:31 Tuxtop kernel: usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using address 3

In dmesg, I'm assuming that the Logitech stuff refers to my mouse, but I'm not sure why that would have anything to do with my camera (other than that they're both USB).

I modprobed usb-storage, but it should have been there anyway because I added it to modprobe.preload so that my USB flash MP3 player would work (it works wonderfully, incidentally).

Oops, only the last two lines of the dmesg part relate to this. The rest was from when I tried to connect it through my USB hub, which might explain the mouse messages (mouse is also connected through the hub).

It turns out that it works perfectly with gphoto/gtkam, so I think that removes the last true barrier I have to true Linux freedom.

Oh yeah, except that I've found it's easier to install programs in Windows and copy the files to run them under Wine than to install them using Wine. Apparently installers aren't written very nicely:D
