Hayl 07-14-2004, 02:31 PM you su to root and then run nautilus --no-desktop (you may have to run xhost +localhost as a normal user before you su) it's not lacking in Gnome, they just don't provide it as a link in the menu by default. you could also run it with gnomesu put: "gnomesu nautilus --no-desktop" into your Gnome menu. you will geta pretty Gnome dialog box asking for the root password. philtesone 07-14-2004, 02:41 PM ok I'm very new to Gnome, don't know how to get around much how do I add it to menu ? (was using KDE all the time but would like to use GNOME more) Hayl 07-14-2004, 02:49 PM open up Nautilus, and in the Location field type in: applications:/// you will get a directory-listing type looking list of your Gnome Menu... you edit it similarly to the way you do when you right--click on the Windows Start menu and choose explore. philtesone 07-14-2004, 03:07 PM I'm using Nautilus 2.6.3 and I don't see any Location field on the top I have: File Edit View Place Help Hayl 07-14-2004, 04:07 PM run it in non-spatial mode. nautilus --browser to switch it to non-spatial permanently (if you prefer it): gconftool-2 -s /apps/nautilus/preferences/always_use_browser -t bool TRUE OR to do it in spatial mode: File | Open Location enter "applications:///" Click OK philtesone 07-14-2004, 06:48 PM ok as soon as dropline is done I'm there ! philtesone 07-14-2004, 07:51 PM ok dropline is finished and quite beautiful I might add. . . now I can run this as su: nautilus --browser --no-desktop which gets me where I need to go via nautilus, but I still don't git how to make it into an app link with su (btw, when I run: gnomesu nautilus --no-desktop I get command not found) Hayl 07-14-2004, 08:04 PM install it then http://sourceforge.net/projects/xsu/ Hayl 07-14-2004, 08:39 PM it's File | Create Launcher to make a new launcher - if you didn't figure it out already. from there, it's the same as making a new start menu entry in windows basically. philtesone 07-14-2004, 08:42 PM I get you, thanx! except I get this when I ./configure xsu : configure: error: Library requirements (gtk+-2.0 >= 1.3.1 libgnomeui-2.0 >= 1.96.0 libzvt-2.0 >= 1.0 libglade-2.0 >= 2.0.0) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them. I'm tired anyway, I think I'll hit this tomorrow philtesone 07-20-2004, 06:28 PM I figured out an easy solution I run: /opt/kde/bin/konqueror as su, and I get my 'explorer' style for easy editing justlinux.com
