I have a Dell Inspiron 1150 laptop with a DVD-ROM built in.

After installing Fedora Core 2 on it (using KDE) I have the problem that the DVD-ROM does not function properly. Sometimes it will read a CD ok. Sometimes it cannot seem to see the CD at all. Sometimes it takes forever to mount the drive. Sometimes the drive does not seem to be mounted; however the drive remains locked.

I have also loaded Xandros 2.1 OCE (which uses kernel 2.4.24) up on it and the DVD-ROM works beautifully.

Also (to the cringe of some of you) I have the system duel-booted with Windows XP. XP has no quarell with my DVD-ROM either.

Any suggestions???

Change /etc/fstab and remove the references to kudzu in the options for the dvd drive.

Ok. I will try that when I get home...

But will this work? All of the symptoms that I listed occur within the same session (i.e. It does not work fine until I re-boot or anything.)

Ok. Brain fart. Kudzu would run at mount time not boot time. Now this makes sense.

I tried it last night and it seemed to smooth things out. I will post if it changes...

Thanks!!!
