i just tried out enlightenment. it looks good, esp. the special fx settings. it is fast too.

but one thing. it seems unusable for day to day use. i am sure i don't know how to use it properly. if i have a maximized window, it takes the whole screen. but then i don't have a taskbar to select other open windows. the icon box only shows minimized apps, not opened windows that are hidden by other windows. also, the virtual desktops takes a lot of space on the screen, and i can hide it easily, but a panel will be so much better.

but the main thing is the taskbar. i know i can put something like fbpanel, but the window maximizes over it. i can't control how much the window should maximize.

does anyone actually USE pure enlightenment, or does it exist just for teaming with desktop enviroments?

I too use enlightenment; but I use gnome-panel along with it. (Thanks for mentioning fbpanel. I will check it out.) With gnome-panel, I don't bother with the icon box since it is unnecessary with a taskbar. When I maximize, though, the windows tend not to take the entire screen. Try this:

(1) Open a window and make sure it does not overlap your taskbar, pager, and iconbox. Maximize your window.

The window should take up as much of the screen as it can without overlapping the above mentioned things.

(2) Unminimize that window and resize it to overlap some or all of the other objects on your screen. Maximize your window.

Now your window should take up your entire screen.

Hope this helps
