Not sure if i should post this here or in hardware, so i guess this'll be my spot.

I want to reinstall linux on my computer, but I don't want to buy partition magic or anything, so i figured id use the partition software included with Knoppix. But when i load it up, I get a "35hz/87hz" no signal, because i have an LCD and a crap vid card. So my question is can i get to the command line and edit something in the config to make it display at a lower refresh rate?

And since i've started a thread anyway, what would you recommend for a linux newbie but not computer illiterate person... Fedora Core 2, Red Hat, SuSE or Mandrake. Just to get to know the linux enviornment.

Thanks! :)

Try using the F2(I think it's F2, you might want to check) key for getting the Knoppix boot codes. One of them will start the command line only and then you won't have to worry about XServer. You can use parted of fdisk for all your parititioning needs.

There's eight-billion threads in ".iso confused, which distro?". Try searching through. Mandrake, SuSE and Fedora are very similar and are the most newbie friendly. If you're most intrested in the geek side of Linux try slackware.

Does parted / fdisk support NTFS resize?
