The installation of Conectiva 10, (ISO burnt onto CD) stops part way through. I tried to copy down the error as best as possible: Buffer I/O error, dev hda, logical block 1909
hda: media error (bad sector): status=0x5) { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hda: media error (bad sector): error=0x36
end_result: I/O error, dev hda sector 710336 The md5sum of original iso checks out good.
Media check passed (similar to the feature in Red Hat).
All of the installation went smoothly until a few minutes after it started to list the packages that it was going to install (~1 GB on a 4 GB HD)
I tried burning the iso twice, once at 2x speed and once at 1x, using NTI CD Maker 2000. I do not know if the speed matters.
I tried both Graphical, Text, and Advanced installation modes.
I have used Conectiva 9 and many other distributions, and I have not had this problem before. The installation Text mode installation is almost exactly like Conectiva 9.NOTE: dev/hda is my CDROM, dev/hdc is the HD.

Is it possible to disable the buffer on /dev/hda? The buffer memory may be overheating during the intense I/O of the installation.
Just a shot in the dark...

Is it possible to disable the buffer on /dev/hda?How do I do this? Is this only for CD burners?

The buffer memory may be overheating during the intense I/O of the installation.I recently installed a new fan in the Power Supply. If something is overheating, could this be related?

I tried out an install of Mandrake 10, and this error is also visible when I hit CTRL+ALT+F4. Just after the Online Update (which I skipped), the installer froze the mouse and keyboard.
