So, is it worth even attempting? I would like to "purify" my box to be slack only packages but I have it set up just the way I want... I'm not using gnome at all right now but my wife does use it from time to time... will running the dropline-gnome-installer uninstall command hose my system? I've looked around but no one has any hard advice on removing dropline... though, a college linux page says to just uninstall if you're not happy... other's say to not even bother or just reinstall... so, what advice can you guys offer?

I never like dropline, I tried it once and its too outdated for me. Just use the uninstaller, then [assuming you use Swaret], make sure that you do not have it disabling the installation of newer packages previously installed by dropline.

EXCLUDE=lilo kernel -*dl$ -*rob$ -*mybuild$

That is the normal exclude, remove the *dl$ part.

EXCLUDE=lilo kernel -*rob$ -*mybuild$

Dropline will uninstall alot of stuff, stuff that might of been installed previously, i.e. xine, gaim, etc. It will take a little cleaning up.

I would boot to "linux single" (init 1) mode to use the dropline installer for removing as it removes some essential gnome pkgs. Then while in the same mode use swaret (follow j79zlr suggestion) to update and upgrade "Gnome". Do "swaret --dep -a" to resolve everything and you should have very little cleaning up to do afterwards.
