Hi everyone,
Is there some sort of clone for Linux of iTunes that supports iTunes XML playlists/libraries and also supports the iPod??
Thanks because thats the only thing holding me back from making the change on my main workstation....
Thanks,

rhythmbox supports this, I believe
http://rhythmbox.sourceforge.net/
Rhythmbox does not have full iPod support. at the moment, all it can do is play music off of an iPod.
if you want to be able to make playlists and add/remove songs from your iPod then I recommend GtkPod. GtkPod can be configured to use your favourite media player to play music if you desire as well as having full iPod support.

Just as a side note, does itunes work with Wine /WineX (with iPod and sound etc working)??
Also, I don't think that rhythmbox is what i am looking for... I have a huge music library with playlists set up (in XML format) and I want to be able to seamlessly change over to *nix without any issues and also I want to be able to change something in a playlist, plug my iPod in and then play...
<EDIT> I just found that there are patches for rhythmbox to make itunesdb and also ipod work!! I am going to try these... I'm going to be offline for a while now while I set it all up...</EDIT>
Thanks,

Hi all,
Ok, I am back online with Slackware 10.0 (great os...) and am going to put rhythmbox on my machine soon..... As soon as I finish reformatting my Firewire HDD and then making it talk to the system
Oh well,
I will post back with results,

can you post a link to the "patches" that give Rhythmbox full iPod functionality?

Sorry about the being vague... I was just leaving to go away, just got back home.....
Anyway, the link is off the development page on the rhythm box site... I will post back when I find the link in its entirety.
Got to go,
Bed time here,

try http://cfergeau.free.fr/arch/rhythmbox/
Tim
those patches are the same code that already exists in Rhythmbox. all it can do is read the songs of the device and play them in Rhythmbox.

from http://www.rhythmbox.org/
"Does the iPod support autoplaylists? I'm not using playlists much on my
iPod, so they are not handled at all by the current integration code.
Things might even break badly if you create a playlist with rhythmbox
and try to add files from the iPod to it.
The only thing that works currently is proper loading of the iPod
library, and detection of whether an iPod is plugged in (read "mounted")
or not (through crappy polling). I want to get that merged with the main
branch before looking at other issues."
and
"Syncing is far from being there yet ;) Btw, if anyone knows of any doc
describing how iTunes knows which songs should be synced to the iPod,
please let me know.
Christophe"
followed up with
"I use gtkpod right now and it is truly amazing. Besides being the best
id3tagger I've found, it does a great job with interacting with the
ipod. I'm guessing that there is an itunes.[ch] in there that has at
least a start of how this works, if not some code you can just directly
lift. The only drawback is gtkpod is painfully slow for larger
libraries, but RB doesn't seem to have that problem, so the marriage of
the two (RB maybe using gtkpod ipod code) would be just dreamy.

I'm using XMMS to play my songs and gtkpod to load them into my iPod. It works, just that I need to create all the playlists twice :( I was hoping for a better solution.
Oh well,
I will look in a few months, by then there should be something :D
Gotta love open source,
